Food Festival

After the huge success of the cooking classes which were organized at the Royal Golf Club back in May and June 2013, New Dawn Society organized a Food Festival that aimed to bring the talented Bahrainis who are interested in cooking in one place. The festival took place in Dec 6th & 7th 2013 starting from 12pm to 7pm.

The main theme of the festival was Live Cooking. Different cuisines were available: Thai, Indian, Lebanese, Mexican, Italian etc in addition to healthy snacks and desserts.

24 food stands were available on Friday. A cupcake decorating competition was held at 4pm and was judged by Mrs. Layla AlSharif and the owner of Let's Eat Cake, Nadia. The winner of the competition was the owner of Cute Oven cupcakes.

26 food stands were available on Saturday and another cooking competition was organized at 4pm which was the highlight of the festival. Three young Bahraini chefs were challenged to cook a starter dish and a main dish out of secret ingredients. The judges of the competition were Mrs. Afnan AlZayani and Dr. Dalal AlSherooqi and the two winners were Muneera AlMannai and Aysha AlOraifi.

A cooking class by chef Yousef (from Bahrain TV) was also held on Saturday at 3pm. Other activities included live music and kids corner.

The festival was under the patronage of Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman AlKhalifa, the Governor of the Capital Governate. The official opening ceremony was attended by his vice Mr. Hassan AlMadani and other representative on Friday at 4pm.

The proceeds of the festival will be used to buy electrical wheelchairs for Bahrain Association for Parents and Friends of the Disabled.

We'd like to thank our sponsors for making this event a huge success: Al Aali Shopping Complex, Al Osra Supermarket, AlGhalia, ilcapopizza and all the restaurants & businesses that provided us with prizes.

Book Drive

The Month of May witnessed one of the most exciting events for the New Dawn Society this year.

We Collaborated with a Wonderful Young Woman named Niccola Milnes, Program Manager at Charles & Rita Field-Marsham Foundation in a Project to help build libraries for poor Muslim Schools in Kenya. Our part in this project was to help in collecting as many books as possible to be sent to these libraries.

To make that happen, we planned an event at Blaze Burgers in Adliya on Wednesday the 15th of May 2013, where we asked everyone we know to spread the word, that we will be collecting books from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm. We also shared it with the public on all our social media platforms, welcoming anyone interested to join us in this wonderful cause.

On the day of the event, we were glad to see the number of wonderful people who gladly gave away hundreds of books for our cause. We were thrilled to announce a total of 1,000+ books at the end of the day, packed and ready to send to the schools in Kenya.

Here are some photos of that successful day.

Cooking Classes - Royal Golf Club

Over the months of May & June 2013, New Dawn Society arranged a series of different cooking classes in collaboration with Chef Mathew from The Royal Golf Club of Bahrain.
Classes were carefully designed to give the participants a bit of theory before the practical part.
We are delighted to share some photos taken from each class. Participants from both genders enjoyed the hands-on cooking experience especially filleting fresh fish & making their own pasta from scratch!

Let us know if you would like to get a copy of the handouts.
